Bluewaft - Bluewaft Log Day 11: Igor takes the nightwatch

Bluewaft Log Day 11
Wednesday 30 November 2016
19°51’.769N 036°09’.1103W
Hardly any wind at all other than squalls, and what wind there is, is on
the nose. Fortunately big fuel tanks! When we can we use the stay sail to
add 0.5knt. We’ve been running a single engine in ‘economy’ mode (2000
rpm) and still have roughly half our fuel left – although after another 48
hours we need to think again about whether we’ll continue to motor as we
want to keep some in reserve for generator and making water etc. Forecast
is for wind tomorrow – so should be fine (fingers crossed).
In the mean time, we’ve lost sight with other boats in the fleet. Last
boat we saw was Vavau (another catamaran) two days ago. From the fleet
positioner we can see that other boats are in the area – but haven’t seen
their lights or AIS (or anything on radar).
Tonight we should reach half way point on our rhum line, so will plan some
sort of celebration.
Good news is fishing is back on track, with four small bonitos yesterday
and a larger (2kg) one this morning – and that one was on a rod for a
change! We even picked up a squid on deck (James threw him back and Alex
cleaned up the ink).
Our two Egrets (Igor and Ingrid) are making themselves right at home. In
fact they have the run of the place. Walking around in the galley, sitting
in the herb garden, lounging on the salon cushions , chatting at the bar,
and sitting in the helm station. At night they sleep behind the helm
station. Ingrid made no protest when Alex picked her up (to move her out
of the lounge). We just need to train them to pour drinks and we’ll be
set!
We had Magali’s hummus for lunch yesterday. To balance out the ‘health’
food I prepared bacon cheeseburgers for dinner. (Ying and Yang).
Inspired by James Bond we’ve been experimenting with cocktails for Sun-
downers (only one each!). Last night we tried a ‘Bluewaft’: 3 parts
Bacardi, 1 part Cointreau, and 1 part Martini, mixed with blue Nordic mist
tonic, crushed mint and a dash of coke. Very refreshing!
Today we’re planning sushi and BBQ tuna… Yum!
Cheers
