Day 23: On the happy boat La Contenta
We crossed the finish line at 21.00 hours 24 minutes and 29 seconds last
night.
We had been escorted on our last 40 miles by a fleet of squalls, several
rainbows and a full moon.
As we entered the marina the other boats horns started to sound and we knew
we had (finally) made it. We were greeted by our friends on Nisidi, Ocean
Blue and Flabrach who joined us on the boat for an impromptu party. Cal
played the guitar and we proudly sang our boat song. We sat up until the
wee hours drinking the rum we had been given and reliving some of the memories
of our days at sea. I would like to thank LC for looking after us, Dave
for his skippering, Cal for his music and Ewen for his humour and cooking. MC
for her never ending smiles. Life is good.

C1. On the happy ship La Contenta
Sailing across the deep blue sea
We’re all dreaming of coconut bikinis
When we get to the Cari’b

The trades nowhere to be seen
It’s got us tacking and jibing
From the fecking Canaries to the Cari’b
V2. We’ve been eating Ewens cooking
And it really not all bad
He’s stayed away from the baked beans
For which I’m very glad
C2. On the happy boat La Contenta
Were the skies are never blue
We’re all dreaming of dry land and rum
If we ever get to the other side
V3. Sailing over the Atlantic Ocean
Waves breaking here and there
I’m trying to use the heads now
But I’m sliding everywhere
V4. Skipper
Dave is at the tiller
Shouting commands at his incompetent crew
Whether this is a race of a rally
Depends on who is passing who
C1. On the happy ship La Contenta

We’re all dreaming of coconut bikinis
When we get to the Cari’b
5. The sun she is hiding
Grey sides on every side
And we’re ducking and diving
All these bastard squalls
6. M-C’s worried about the carpets
And oilies on the upholstery too
But if not for her enthusiasm
It would be a long three weeks at sea

We’re all dreaming of dry land and rum
If we ever get to the other side
V7. The fish keep stealing all our lures
A gybe made shite of a preventer block
There’s onions raining down n Ewens head
The fruit has all gone off
V8. I’m sleeping in to eleven
While all the hard work being done
I arise from my cabin
Just in time for the cake

Dave has eaten all the chocolate
Baked beans are all we’ve left to eat

He did most of the helm work it’s true
I must admit he’s better at it than me

We’re all dreaming of dry land and rum

Well don’t worry about it matey
Just another eleven verses to the end
V12. Now cruising into Saint Lucia
And not showered for three weeks
Singing Fiddlers Green badly out of tune
And grinning cheek to cheek

Where the skies are never blue
We’re all dreaming of dry land and rum
If we ever get to the other side
Cos we’re on the happy boat La Contenta
Now the skies are always blue
We have dry land beneath our feet
Now that we’ve made it through
On the happy boat La Contenta
