In the spirit of reviving their culture, a group at the University of Hawaii built a boat to be sailed like their Polynesian ancestors. The name of the original boat was HOKULE'A. It was launched around 1977. It has been sailed around the world. There are other similar boats doing the same thing. The boat landed in our bay where we were anchored. It has been to Nuka Hiva before. This is the original boat. There was a big greeting celebration with dancers, singers, native language speakers, schoolchildren and plenty of photographers. We understood a limited amount but got the picture. It was very interesting to absorb. You will have to look up more. I am sure I have not done it justice. I will try to do some photos. May fair winds fill your sails with cultural roots! Bob
