Hi,
here is a note from SY Windsurf, Peter and Marianne from the
Netherlands.
!
We are
on half the trip from the British Virgin Islands to Bermuda. All kinds of
weather we have had so far. Everything is turning out great. According to the
fleettracker form Yellow Brick we are in the middle of the fleet. So we feel very safe !!! Also our boat Windsurf, a Contest 50cs,
is doing allright.
Our
start on Saturday, May 6th 2017, was a bit slow, so we ended up in
the back of the field. When we were out of the islands (a beautiful goodbye of
the BVI’s), the wind came from the SE, 13-20 knts. Nice sailing conditions… with
an average SOG of 8-9 knts, we came into the middle of the fleet… the first 24hrs we covered 180nM !! the first days at sea are always tiring.
You have to get used to the nightwatches and the movements of the boat. We have
a system of 3hr watches. The 2nd day we had less wind so we made only
160nM…
At the
end of Sunday, during the sunset, we discovered some movement in the bracket,
which connects the boomvang to the mast. We did some repairs, but it needs
attention in Bermuda. Monday we had rain all day and no wind so we motored a
lot. And now it is Tuesday with the flying fishes on deck and a bunch of
dolphins next to our boat. Very nice to see. Relaxing again. It is a lazy day today
with lots of sunshine and nice music from Simon & Garfunkel in our
cockpit…
With
the two of us, we manage this crossing perfectly. We have found our balance in
sleeping and eating. We enjoy the
ocean, the music, breakfasts, lunches and dinners, our day’s
highlights.
Thanks
to the Yellow Brick and our Garmin InReach we have nice contacts with SY
FrannieB and with our family !!! With the Yellow Brick we can also see were
every participant is during the trip.

& Marianne s/y Windsurf.
