hello from the good ship EH01,
Apologies for the radio silence, we have been busy navigating and settling
into living on board over the first few days.
The weather isnt particulary favourable to us this year with hardly any
wind in the middle of the Atlantic. Hence most of the boats in our fleet decided
to stay slightly north of the great circle route to find more pressure. However,
this means that we have to deal with some uncomfortable upwind sailing, rain
showers and squalls in the hope of finally finding trade winds this weekend and
set up for a nice, downwind sail towards St. Lucia.
Crew has been fantastic looking after each other and the boat, helping
everywhere they could to make life easier on board for everyone. After a day and
night of upwind sailing and slamming into waves the sun is now out and we’ve
been having a great day on the water. Hatches are open, clothes are drying and
the fishing line is out....as a matter of fact we just caught our first fish, a
colourful dorado. It will be a great mid afternoon snack.
This morning we caught up with Quokka (the other PYR boat in the fleet) and
now we’re sailing side by side within a mile from each other. It’s always nice
to have some company around us, especially if it’s one of our boats.
The next 24 hours looks pretty light which gives us time to get ready for
our next upwind leg (hopefully the last one) which will reach us Thursday night,
Friday morning.
We’ll be back with more news later this week.
