Helen - Ed, day 7
We are making steady progress and are now just over 1,000 miles from the start with 1,150 miles to go. We hope to cross the halfway point around midnight.
The biggest highlight when crossing an ocean is the beauty of the night sky. Last night I stood watch with the captain under a wonderful starry sky.
The captain tried to explain to me that the universe is infinite, which in maths means 0/1, but that went well over my tail!
However around 2am we did see in the southern sky the constellation of Argo Navis, the Arganaut's ship. It is broken into three sections:-
Vela - the ship's sail
Carina - the keel
Puppis - the stern
Nearby, there is also:
Pyxis - the magnetic compass
Volans - the flying fish
However just a little further away you can see a constellation named after one of my cousins, Chameleon, the lizard that can change it's skin colour to match it's mood.
It is amazing what an Iguana can find in the night sky when crossing an ocean!
