Hot Stuff - Naomis blog - day 6
Dad, you will be pleased to hear that I have been assigned as safety officer and went so far as to sleep in my life jacket for the first two nights as I was too tired to take it off! I have adopted a new sleeping position, face down with my arms straight down my side as it's the best way to prevent rolling out of you berth when the boat heals or we tack. I am also on plait duty as swapping from sunnies by day to head torches by night messes up the hair! We have all started accessorising with various bruises and I haven't worn shoes in 4 days which makes me very happy!
We have got through our first wind hole day, and the glassy still water makes me feel as though I am on a film set. Whilst having a bucket shower two Atlantic dolphins joined me - it was surreal! Succumbing to mother natures plan can be frustrating, but we fill our time with music, sitting on the sugar scoop with our feet in the ocean to cool down, even resorting to a boat boot camp....so definitely no excuses to my clients back home!
The wind has picked back up and we are heading south to avoid gales in the north. Silvia played some of her Spanish music today whilst I was helming so we may be slightly off course now - sorry skipper haha!
Hot Stuff feels like the 11th crew member and I've grown such affection for her, plus she's a Hampshire girl - built in Southampton!
I hope a quality from each of these amazing women rubs off on me, and I return to land a better person with an awesome story to tell, new skills and trips to Canada, Bristol and Cornwall planned from that time we sailed across the Atlantic.
