It´s Monday evening. I´m sitting on my sofa, spending a quiet evening at home - the last one for the next six months. We, me & and my boyfriend and skipper Peter, will be flying back to Gran Canaria tomorrow morning. Where Hector, our friend´s Dean catamaran, is waiting for us and the rest of the crew.
Our journey has started about 2,5 months ago in Greece already. Since then, we´ve made about 2.100 miles from Greece via Sicilia, Sardegna & Gibraltar to Las Palmas. 2.100 miles for which we needed about 36 days from start to finish, "thanks" to crazy weather conditions in the med sea, and days waiting and weathering. Like so many other ARC boats we´ve met on our way did as well. Which was though, and gave us already a first idea of that special ARC family feeling everybody talks about.
Peter has crossed the Atlantic twice already, but never with the ARC. For me it´s my first time ever, and I can´t wait to set sail. Hopefully with better winds like we had before. At least there won´t be any days weathering & waiting once we are out of Las Palmas.
We´ll keep you in the loop how preparations are going, news about our crew, and what we are up to after the crossing.
Right now, I´ll enjoy a last proper bath, a proper toilet flush, and a good sleep in my own bed.
All our bags are packed, we are ready to go..
Fair winds and save journey to all ARC+ boats & crews who are already on their way.
Cheers & Ahoi,
Katrin
PS: In German for our German blog readers - auf der Seite der ARC gibt es einen separaten Blog für alle teilnehmenden Schiffe:
https://www.worldcruising.com/arc/arc_2018_eventlogs.aspx).
