There's a question to ask! Last week I asked it in school, on school media and amongst friends - and the answer? Many people struggle to think of someone because they think it has to be someone famous or historic - But why?
When we think back to when we were kids and we saw people who broke records, got paid huge amounts of money, designed the latest games console - do those people inspire us to get up and act?
In the last week we've been reminded of the dreams of so many soldiers heading for the battlefields as fearless youngsters and for those returned war scarred men and women whose lives would be changed forever, they still dreamed of a life, family and a future.
Does it have to be the most famous filmstar, the biggest celebrity (what ever that means these days), or the winner of bake off or Strictly or the World Cup?
The answer is, it doesn't matter. We forget that dreams are forged from the smallest suggestion, the most fleeting observation, the greatest achievements, the simplest acts. We teach kids to aspire to be great human beings who think of others, who challenge themselves every day, reminding them it's ok to struggle sometimes and the rewards are greater for the journey.
This week, we're asking the students at school 'Who inspires you?' and we want to know why; 'What are your dreams?' and how do you think you'll get there?
It's all in prep for a water based journey that the school is taking with us. At school, Ben from the Andrew Simpson Watersports Centre in Portsmouth came over to look at how we can inspire our students to get involved and get on the water - it all starts now!
As Gitana's crew starts to reunite for the ARC2018 the excitement is building (as is the jobs list). This week for example, James and Mike have been sorting the safety equipment to make sure we're safe to go (we passed by the way), sorting the boats water works, the radios and the all important cockpit speakers - to avoid the on watch karaoke! Des arrived today, Dave next Monday and I'm next Wednesday in time for kick off.
When we sat down in Plymouth nearly two years ago following James's tentative email wondering which of his friends might consider joining him to realise this dream, the reality of the final countdown seemed a long way away - but, it's almost time to go!
It's all in the planning, dreams aren't a quick fix or a straight line journey from A-B and there are so many people involved along the way. Finally, it's time for our TransAtlantic crew to come together as a team and make our final preparations for the journey!
What's your dream and how might you get there? Answers on a cloud shaped postcard please!
Kirsty (Miss!)
