Today we leave, and we are ready to go -
the crew are briefed and the
boat is prepped. The long term forecast is looking good and right
now it looks like we will have a nice fast crossing -
the only slight issue is whether
there is
enough wind to
cross the start line! It is due to pick up later in the day, but at
our start time the heavier yachts like us may struggle to make any
movement. The cruiser fleet that starts 15 mins behind us will be
able to use their engines and so we will likely wallow around whilst
they overtake us. At least we will get a good look at all the other
boats and get some nice pictures of the fleet. We have packed our
sandwiches and our spinnakers but we are not sure which we will use
first.
With the competition on the water
unlikely to be exciting at the start, we have chosen to start
the onboard competition - Fishing!
Everyone has done their research and chosen their 'Lucky Lure',
some are heirlooms, some chosen months ago, and others fresh off
the shelves of the local chandlers. We have drawn lots for the
start order and each lure gets a full day in the water to do its
business and the owner
is head fisherperson responsible
for tactics, fighting, dispatching and preparing of the fish.
