In 1492, exactly 526 years ago Christopher Columbus also departed from Puerto de la Luz harbour, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria after doing boat work and provisioning; we have done the same.
There are some differences, however - he did not leave on his birthday, and we know that we are not going to land in India! We have a smaller boat and a smaller crew (see pic below), and I am certain we will eat a lot better than they did, thanks to Geraldine.
We set sail today at 1230 in light winds with roughly 200 other boats on the ARC (Atlantic Rally Crossing), confident and happy, thanks to the outstanding organisation of the WCC (World Cruising Club) people.
We are heading roughly WSW following the trade wind route and expect to see many beautiful sunsets, and arrive in St Lucia, Caribbean, within 3 weeks. Our crew pictured below are (L to R):
