Attitude - Day 1 - First night shift
First night shift is underway. 10pm to 4am.
Valades and I will be responsible for the first night shift and Rui and Felisberto for the second. So far it has been a very calm night with 9 kts of wind coming in at a AWA of 59°, just enough for our main sail. We are currently heading 229° with a speed of 7.5 kts.
So far we have had a good start, with a top 10 position in the multihull decision. Let’s see if our routing bet pays off during the next couple of days.
As I sit outside in the cockpit, wearing a headlamp and a winter jacket and all the technology available, I can’t help but think: The Portuguese sailors in the 1500s must of have been completely out of their minds to attempt this without knowing what would be on the other side.
Dinner menu: Pork loin with local potatoes cooked in the oven with white wine and home grown red pepper paste. Served with a Douro red. As always, for some, an old whiskey with one ice cube serves as desert!
