Log 3 'A hard day at sea'
Its been our best day yet but still hugely disappointed that no fish have as yet taken the line. Freyja is at this moment changing the lure, let’s hope we get some luck soon.
'Bimble' and crew are settling in nicely to our Atlantic crossing, well rested and in good humour. The ‘Joke of the crossing’ as yet hasn’t been told!
We made a long way south yesterday to try to get into the trade winds and all came good around about 2am this morning. We are presently sailing with wing on wing headsails making 8.2knots SOG in 15-17 knots of ENE wind on a heading of 238 degrees COG .
We’ve already had the conversation about our insignificance in the vastness of the universe. The night sky was awesome, something we have heard about but now fully appreciate the full splendour and clarity of all those far away planets and stars. The moon as it rose above the horizon was huge and hung in the sky with a glow and brilliance that I had never ever seen before.
So today we are all very cheerful, Lucy and Freyja are now sunbathing on the trampoline, I will join them shortly.
Lucy cooked us a fabulous lunch today, it was a aubergine surprise of an Italian theme, with a courgette, lambs leaf and parmesan salad and accompanied by crispy chorizo. Focaccia made by Freyja went down nicely with it….aren’t we lucky!??
So hopefully we will go into our third night and all will be well.
Postscript to above……Luck landed at our stern, we have reeled on to the boat a 12kg tuna….it is massive, so everyone the ARC fleet invited to the tuna party on ‘Bimble’ tonight, and every night for the rest of the trip!….I think we won’t be putting out our lure for a while and maybe should have heeded Clares advice, big lure = big fish.
Best wishes to all at home.
