Yesterday we took it down a notch, and decided to run with Kickaboo (A5) after the kitemare with BWB. And we were hauling ass. Then Kickaboo ripped at the clew. We got it down, but somehow someone ending up going up the mast again...
Getting Kickaboo down wasn't a problem. Sure it was sad to see her go, as she was the perfect kite for us at the time. But we had her in a sock, so it was fairly easy to take down despite the ripped clew.
The issue was we noticed our 2:1 fractional halyard was chafed, preventing us to use our final downsized kite: the genny. So up went Morgen to cut the chafed section at the mast... yes, we are really trying not to make this up-the-rig thing a daily occurrence.
Despite all of the drama, from 6 PM Wednesday to 6 PM Thursday, we managed to log 275 NM and average 11.4 SOG. This included wrestling the kite down, sailing bare headed, and sailing low and slow for the time Morgen was up the mast.
Now we are sailing a bit conservatively as the sea is still sloppy and the breeze peaks on the edge of our other kites. So we keep an eye on position reports to ensure we are keeping up, and when we should put the throttle back down.
