Raritan - Raritan – 12/1/18. Day 7: Continuing South, Dodging Flying Fish

Driving was tough overnight with random seas coming from the port quarter and few visible stars to drive by. It’s very easy to become disoriented and end up steering the boat too far downwind. We are all developing a variety of techniques to avoid that.
The water temperature is up to 26°C, so nearly 80°F. We are seeing lots of flying fish and Matt even found 3 dead ones on the deck this morning. Late this morning we had a visit from some dolphins, which is always entertaining.
We continue to push South on port gybe. As of 10AM (11AM GMT), we have covered 83 nautical miles and are 52 miles closer to St. Lucia since 0000. Wind is ~17 knots from 055-070 and we’re sailing mostly a true wind angle of 135-150°, which keeps the boat moving and keeps the risk of a gybe low. This translates to a compass course of about 220° at 8-10 knots.
