hi all
Last time i wrote the blog we had just discovered the
joy of sailing down wind with the jib goose winged to starboard , classic
Norfolk Broads sailing. It has been good for VMG ( ie speed direct to St Lucia,
rather than Brazil or Florida.),Though last night we managed ie
the classic "hove to" by broaching in a big gust to windward and
stopped dead, with pole and boom fixed with preventers, we had some serious head
scratching as to how to get going again, normal service was soon
resumed though. It is amazing how hard and scary at times helming at night
at 9 to 14 kts in big waves is compared to daylight , which is relaxing and
fun. Some debate on board whether hoisting the big blue kite
will give us better VMG to St Lucia, the conclusion is that at about 20/30
degrees worse wind angle the extra speed and risk is not the best way to go at
present and this seems to be proven by a larger boat who has been on our tails
for two days but has now slipped back over the horizon.
Last night we were serenaded by Kits opera singing
before dining on chicken in white wine sauce, delicious, just heard the proposed
lunch menu today of fried bread, beans and eggs , yummy , which goes some
way to making up for the fact that I will be missing the Good Old Boys
lunch today back home , have a good one chaps ! ( Sue, at least I wont be
wobbling home!!!)
Another milestone during the night as we passed the
1000 miles barrier and are now on 929 mile to go .
love from all on Board
