Danica I - Danica Sailing Log

Day 15- Sunday, December 9, 2018
¢ Night Watch Report:
o Changing sails in the middle of the night and trying to avoid squalls was the theme of the night watch. Code 0 came down just a bit after midnight and genoa was hoisted on the pole. The main was dropped earlier in the evening and we sailed genoa in 14-17 knot winds, making an average speed of about 5.5 knots. We have very bright lights on the foredeck and these sail changes are doable but not something I particularly look forward to. I refer to these experiences as Fire Drills.
o We repeated the practice in reverse order just after breakfast
¢ Day sailing and Danica's Trip's distance
o 14-19 knot winds, sailing at 5.5 knots with Code 0 only
o 12:00 noon - Trip distance - 2310 NM, 133 NM in 24 hrs - second slowest day
¢ Highs and Lows of the day
o The overall trip distance is increasing and we are ready and eager to reach St. Lucia in the next 3-4 days.
o My provisioning plan is working well. By using our freezer as a fridge, we still have enough fresh fruit and vegetables to last until our destination. Catching mahi- mahi added a fantastic variety to our meals. Perhaps the Captain and Don will want to troll the fishing lines again.
