Today is Ed’s (the nipper) thirtieth birthday. Hw was allowed to sleep in and was met with happy birthday banners across the Bimini and a pile of birthday cards that had been smuggled on board with out his knowledge. He enjoyed the surprise. What he doesn’t know is that that there are two more surprises heading his way today. A birthday cake for tea time and a fillet steak supper which will also include a glass of champagne. What a place to have a birthday.
Last night was dull, we tootled along slowly at around 4.5 knots which was extremely frustrating. However, we did have a couple of decent squalls. It’s really watching the boat and the Twizzle rig cope with these wind increases. At the start of one of these squalls we were in 9-10 knots of wind doing 4.5 knots the wind started to increase and with in five minutes we had thirty knots. At the same time with out adjusting the rig or the course Theodora just got faster and faster until we reached ten knots of boat speed at which point we thought we were planing. Then after a few minutes the wind died and we were back to a about five knots in torrential rain.
As I write this at 14:15 , Theodora time, we are having a much better day of it and we are now only 488 nms from the northern most tip of St Lucia. The ships computer thinks that will take us another 75 hours at our current speed. Let’s hope the winds are kind to us.
Over the past two weeks we have spent hours talking about a random selections of subjects and from these conversations a few questions have arisen that we can’t answer because we don’t have google, can anyone help us out? They are listed below.
1 which is bigger area the North Atlantic Ocean or the continent of Africa.
2 where is the Sargasso Sea?
3 why is the Sargasso weed so prolific.
4 How many people work in the International Space station.
5 Does it have a geostationary orbit or does it move around.
5 Do sea birds rest or nest at sea.
6 Do European eels breed in the Sargasso Sea.
7 if they don’t where do they breed.
