Sweet Dream - Day 12 January 24, 2019

First shift of the second leg of the journey. After skippers’ meeting this morning at 09:30 where we disappointed that the start had been delayed again due to a coast guard warning, Lars made the executive decision to go anyway, along with seven other boats keen to get to the San Blas. Twelve hours later we are off the Colombian coast, rockin along with a moon like a freight train head lamp steaming over the big seas that come hissing from our starboard quarter. No doubt about it, this IS small craft advisory weather, yet our 30 ton blue water stalwart lady is barrelling smartly along under just a double reefed main. Quite an odd sail plan for 140 degrees off the wind, but at this angle the swell is big enough to set the Genoa flapping, stalling out in the Lee of the main. Not wanting to be pole dancing by the light of the moon, we just furled the genny away and are content with our progress with the primary sail. The second advantage to this sail plan is that if the wind DOES ramp up, we are far enough off shore that we could just come about and heave-to with very little fuss. These thoughts comfort me, along with knowing there are seven other vessels just ahead, full of serious sailors out having fun in the Caribbean moonshine, living the Sweet Dream with us!
