So yesterday was average we didn’t break anything more but we didn’t manage to fix anything either ,we had a good following wind it built to AWS 21knts and a boat speed of 6/7 knots so we made a fantastic 149 over a 24 hour period. We had information that two of the boats, Boheimen and Ibex were closing down on our position, we were glad of the company to be honest and it was good to know others were about.
We are still hand steering as we have been unable to attach the windvane rudder. We did haves discussion about leaving with this attached before setting off. This may have been a good idea as trying to do it sea is virtually impossible. We have settled into the grove of 2x2x2 so my trusty crew at home had better get used to the idea when I eventually get Girolle operational!
The weather was lovely yesterday however we did catch our first rainfall for 20 mins or so, quickly followed by another, not quite long enough for a shower.
I will write some information about sail sets for Toby and Rob in a later blog, especially for people who are going to sail protracted periods down wind, there is a comfort and stability issue with just poling out or goose wing. I suspect another trip to the boat show to negotiate a deal on sails is forth coming for a Number of us.
We are approaching 900 nm and so we are getting close to mid point , I plan to have a beer and surprise the captain. I’ll let you know how it goes,
Hope you’re enjoying the blogs,
