11.12.2021 - Arrival
Yeah, we made it!!!
It took us 3.064 nm, 20 days and 6 hours to do the Atlantic Crossing from Las Palmas to Saint Lucia in the Caribbean. During the first 3 days we didn't have lots of Wind. But lots of dolphins joined us instead. Especially when Jenny played the guitar they came and as she stopped they disappeared and came back when she startet to play again. The water was so calm and quiet that we could hear the dolphins breath. It was so amazing to watch these beautiful animals. 120 nm before the Cap Verdes we turned West to sail with the trade winds and it kicked in and so the swell did. The next 1,5 weeks we had waves up to 5 m and it made sailing fast but a little uncomfortable, especially in the nights, when the Squalls reached us. The last week of the crossing was easy downwind sailing. The waves were getting smaller and we had less squalls in the night, so we could enjoy sailing again. During the crossing we had lots of beautiful sunsets and most of the time good winds. We reached Saint Lucia
on Saturday, December 11th in the afternoon in daylight, which was good but not usual for us as we usually arrive everywhere in darkness. Just before crossing the finishline we were welcomed and acompanied to our dock by all the kids from the other familyboats, which had arrived already. When we got to the pontoon we had a big hearty welcome party hosted by the crews of the other boats with our new friends from Las Palmas. The welcome was very overwhelming and made us realize that we really just arrived safe and sound after our first atlantic crossing.
