Joanna - Blog update: Joanna crew looking for new opportunities in St. Lucia

After our initial dry spell in the fishing department, the flood gates have opened with several more catches - it's fish for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Todays catch was a chunky 75cm 15Kg (!) blue fin tuna. What a treat - sushi is on the menu for tonight! I think we'll keep the fishing lines in tomorrow while we enjoy and get through our fridge full of fish!

Our fishing endeavours have had some unintended consequences which has left us with some unique skills. Some of the crew are looking for new job opportunities once in St Lucia - please get in contact if you can help.

1. Race sail training - we didn't think there were going to be many sail changes during this passage but how wrong we were as soon as the we hear our fishing reels go, we need to slow our boat down from the pacey 8 knots to something more manageable to get the fish onboard. Due to the number of catches, the crew have been having a daily workout of lowering the spinnaker and then hoisting it once we've landed the catch. The current record for this is a two person team, lowered and re-hoisted in under 5 minutes. If you're looking for crew for any upcoming races in the Caribbean let us know.

2. Clean up operations - catching and preparing fish is a messy affair which leaves Joanna's white pristine deck looking like a crime scene. The crew is now well versed in a quick, easy and discrete clean up, scrubbing the deck down and removing all evidence in record breaking time. Although a somewhat more unique skill, it may be of use to some of you - It's been great hearing the stories from other boats and it sounds like spirits are high among crew members.
