Another day. Another lots to fix. Today’s theme was flying galley draws.
The wind instruments have taken on a mind of their own. Any sudden rolls or cracking headsail/Zero filling causes a the wind instruments to reset. Currently they are working.
Team feels much happier for dropping a gear over night. They are a simply super group of people. Their skills and seamanship have developed significantly over these past few weeks.
I write, soon to sleep. The gentle aroma of feet and sweaty socks providing a nautical theme aroma.
We had our most significant and honest Happy Hour today. All shared feeling and where mind, body and sprits were at.
There are a challenging few days ahead; as the breeze drops, a new set of challenges will reach out. We shall see how a new dawn shapes. Races are won and lost in light airs and between the hours of 02 and 04. The breeze is only going to drop for about 36 hours, before gently filling in again. The trick with this stuff is to being awareness to the relationship one has with feeling — be it frustration, annoyance or indeed odour!
Whilst controlling the wind is a little above my pay grade right now, my relationship to how I process the strains of light airs is entirely on me. I have every confidence in the crew and have every belief in them as a group of individuals and even stronger team.
Breeze is a little lighter this evening. Down to 15 knots. We’re a little under powered, a new challenge to process. A little quieter night, will hopefully allow a richer state of sleep quality for all across the fleet.
It’s a big bloody lonely sea out here.
We were hailed by Vessel Bries just before Happy hour and our chat. A Dutch family and dog sailing a Danish built boat to Barbados (only 38 of them built). How ships pass in the night. We passed close by them, was great to see another slice of civilisation in the middle of the deep blue.
Long way done. Bloody long way to go. 1944 miles sailed since leaving Gran Canaria — 1,206 Distance to finish line.
Time to rest. Tomorrow brings another dawn.
Fair breeze, god speed and following seas.
