We have now done 24 hours of our crossing.
Leaving the dock we played “Heave Away” to mark the start of the passage. The line up of cheering people waiving flags from the pier was very cool. The start was amazing.
Sailing quite close to other boats and jockeying back and forth with them. Snowmane sails well to wind so we had fun passing some huge catamarans and enjoying the edge we had on them in that regard. As night fell we were sailing really nicely. We enjoyed the
smooth sailing and a beautiful sunset. Our new Hydrovane was an immediate hit. We have already named her Eowyn. At midnight we turned on the internet and saw that we were, shockingly, 11th overall in the race standings. What? We knew that would
definitely not last but had fun with it. It was slightly less fun at 3am when the wind totally died and we had to motor. D’Arcy, who is an experienced sailor and racer, had never done a night passage on a sailboat before so this was a big mark for him. He
found Jupiter during his nightwatch. Overally spirits are high although we would really the wind to come back as motoring is not so fun.
