Cara of the South - Day 4
24:30.44N 19:08.91W Midday Position Day 4 Wednesday 27th November
Quite an extensive job list today. First up is to eat 14 kg of bananas, second on the list is to find out if dolphins like eating bananas. I was for a short period this summer a dolphin trainer in Mexico. I learnt a lot of theory about the behavioral expectations needed in order to train them, all very interesting. The centre had a collaboration with a local university which was conducting a 2 year research project on the neuro sciences of dolphins, something about how dolphins think, I think. After 2 years and much expense it was quite clear on its findings - dolphins very much enjoy and like eating fish. Now there's some funding we'll never see again. I only mention dolphins as we have a pod of them following us which seems to be getting bigger. They've been with us since yesterday and won't go away. I'm not sure if they are the entertainment or we are the entertainment, it seems they are waiting for something to happen, funny and amusing for them but potentially disastrous for us, like the time on leaving the fuel dock in Plymouth when I tripped on deck and went head first into the mainsheet only to get completely tangled Laurel and Hardy style. Lucky David was there to disentangle my mess.
The auditory hallucinations have kicked in today. I usually get these when solo sailing on day 4 and they are odd on this occasion. I keeping hearing a Scottish man in the background and very weirdly he thinks he is really funny. What this always leads to is a good sleep finally and the mad Scottish man might go away.
Talking of Scottish people, myself and David had our first committee meeting today. A committee of two, which is not a great idea as you should have an odd number on any effective committee. However 3 is too many. The only item on the agenda was, on board rubbish, and how to deal with it. It was finally decided after surprisingly little debate that David become the Waste and Recycling Program Director. I'm happy to report that David has thrown
himself in to this new role with great enthusiasm and purpose. He has created a waste Management Facility up at the mast between the granny bars, he's been up there engrossed for hours now sorting and stacking, bagging and cleaning. I think I heard him making spaceship noises at one point as another piece of rubbish was deposited to a sack.
I feel I have so much to tell you but we have a boat to sail. More tomorrow.
Onwards!!
