Hummingbird Blog - 30 Nov 2024
The wind has
picked up and we have been enjoying some lovely sailing overnight and this
morning scooting along under staysail and yankee 1 averaging 7/8 knots. Exactly
the sailing we've been looking forward to under the constant heat of the sun.
Life onboard has
settled into a great routine with everyone easing into their watches and
hopefully our Skipper and Mate seeing improvement in our collective skills and
team work!
Our fishing
endeavours continue under Doc and Ken's rig although we've had to resort to fish
actually throwing themselves onboard with the Flying Fish found during this
morning's deck check.
We're certainly
eating well with every mothers' watch producing new and delicious dishes. Last
night Craig and El produced the most enormous vegetable chilli which we
surprisingly managed to consume. Might need to try to get those deck steps up to
compensate! The galley also celebrated the birth of our first newborn batch of
bread which delighted all as it was enjoyed with hash browns and bacon under
Bill and Ken's fabulous cooked breakfast this morning.
Six days in is
always a good opportunity to be reminded of how not to use the heads (nothing to
do with the inordinate amount of beans in the chilli) and combined with
sock-gate on some over-ripe footwear keeps us all right on domestic cleanliness
and bliss.
I smell lunch
and banana bread wafting through the boat so until tomorrow
(we are sailing in
between eating, honest!) till tomorrow El.
