This is the main street in Fakarova. Unusually for these islands it has a metalled road. In addition to the church there are two supermarkets, which unsurprisingly perhaps do not have a lot of stock. The great luxury is that there is a boulangerie selling French Bread.
We left the main town in the north of the island and have sailed about 40 miles to the south of the island where there is a narrow pass which we can go through and out into the Pacific. The rest of the island is totally remote, with coral reefs, untouched beaches and crystal clear blue waters. The route was quite squally so we had to keep a sharp eye out for reefs etc. However we are now safely at the south side and simply have to navigate the passage tomorrow morning.
