BALI
GOOD?
Another day's motor sailing on Saturday and we
arrive as anticipated at about 8 am local time at Benoa Marina, Bali on Sunday.
First impressions are not good! Very filthy marina and tired looking buildings,
but as usual in Bali the staff are very helpful. I spend about 45 minutes
filling in about 16 different forms all of which have virtually the same
information, but at least the marina handle everything and we don't have to get
involved separately with police, customs and immigration like some
places!
We eventually take a taxi to Sanur (one of the
2 main tourist towns) and we are dropped off at the Hyatt, which I think I have
been to before. I stay and have lunch whilst the others walk round (I am in pain
today). The bougainvilleas are sensational! We are looking for excursions for
the next 2 days, but are not impressed by the hotel?s offerings and book instead
a car and driver from a local agency in Sanur.
This evening we are recommended by the marina
to the restaurant KU-DE-TA. A very large modern upmarket restaurant with
extensive outdoor areas, low-level lighting, excellent food, very atmospheric,
floodlit surf on the reef, live band, loungers for couples overlooking the beach
etc. Really great and really expensive! The atmosphere was slightly disturbed by
a loud group of drunk Aussies. Malcolm is challenged to outdo them, but with the
price of wine we all remained sober and he declined! Ian is looking very dapper
tonight in a designer shirt and could easily be mistaken in the soft lighting
for Nelson Mandela!
As you guessed we enjoyed
ourselves!
