Crazy Horse - snorkeling on Rangiroa

Well, this island is one which Jacques Cousteau deemed the most prolific with sea life and best underwater diving and snorkeling in the world. We decided that we must not miss the experience and it was a memorable one.

At the encouragement of Matt and our friends Maggie and Bob we went through the Tiputa pass drift snorkeling the entire way. It was a bit unnerving to see the current and waves so close but once we relaxed it was no work at all. We just drifted down the pass viewing many fish, sharks, underwater coral displays, and brilliant colors to behold. There is a deep shelf where there are supposed to be a wall of sharks. I did see some but not so many that I ever felt threatened. It was exciting and exhilerating.

We all took turns going through the pass and one following on the dinghy always in case there was a problem. Matt and Bob are good at free diving and went down pretty far to give us a good show. They like a more interactive approach. I like to view from more of a distance. In all it was great fun and glad I was able to conquer any apprehension I may have felt to experience such an event.

Thanks to Maggie, Bob, and Matt for the encouragement and support!

Rosemary
