Crazy Horse, Ocean Jasper, and Windswept continue on our journey to Lakota today. We hope to make it into the harbor to check in by 10-11am. From there we hope to make it to Musket Cove Marina before dark. This has been an interesting trip through these reefs. Sometimes it is like you are in the middle of the ocean because you just can't see the reefs. You must rely on the charts to see the reefs. On the chart it looks like you have a mountain on either side. So when we anchored last night we had the feeling of anchoring right out in the ocean. There was the island on one side but we had to anchor far out to keep away from the mud.
Last night our friends on Windswept learned that the young couple they were traveling with for two months had to be rescued off the coastline of the island of Nuie. They had a 32ft Westsail. He was from Australia and she was from Washington State in the USA. They were excited about taking this boat from LA to Australia. We actually met them at Bloody Mary's in Bora Bora one night at the bar. Well, the story goes that their boat got dismasted in 35kt winds and started taking on water. Sounds like they had pretty much damage to the decks. It sank and they set off their EPIRB and were rescued. We are all happy that they are safe. There certainly is a feeling of community and belonging when a fellow sailor gets into trouble. Most of us say our prayers and do what we can to offer support. There go we except for...
We are all looking forward to spending a few days of exploration on the island where Musket Cove is located. Seems like we have been moving and unable to have enough time to get off the boat to explore some of these little islands and reefs. We will once we get to Musket Cove. We are observing some stormy skies and hope that we make it in before the rain. Mares tails and.....We have been lucky and had some good sailing on our journey thus far to Lakota.
