There is a rainforest national park within walking distance of the Shelter Bay marina. It has an abundance of wildlife, such as sloths, monkeys, pythons and crocodiles. One busload from the marina, on a trip through the forest, did get to see spider monkeys in the trees.
We didn't see the monkeys but we did see a crocodile sunning itself on a rock when we first entered the marina. Also we went for a walk in the forest and Estella saw something small and furry that scurried away and was probably an Agouti (like a large guinea pig).
Unfortunately we have no photos of any exotic animals, but here is a picture of some leafcutter ants carrying their leaves down the white line at the side of the road through the forest. 1B6
