Great Escape of Southampton - Day 2 Great Escape 26 51N 17 49W
Day 2
What a night, I don’t think any of us realised we had
clicked on the ‘Full on Adventure’ button when we booked the trip. Last night
was certainly one to remember, big swells and big winds and surfing down the
waves. I think Jan holds the surfing record at just under 12 knots although
Stephen reckons he had more than 12 knots at one point. For my part it made for
an interesting time on the helm.
This morning sees clear skies and most of the crew on
deck helping to rig the main sail as well as the head sail. The wind has dropped
a bit the boat is more stable and making about 7.5 knots.
David and John believe they saw a whale off the port
side this morning. Luckily for us it stayed away although John did mention
getting the fishing gear out.
Hopefully the weather will stay fair and we can get in
some great downwind sailing in the sunshine. Let’s see what the rest of the day
will bring.
