Mad Fish - Pants
As you may well have guessed it is getting pretty hot down here at 15 degrees N. I have taken to wearing shorts and t-shirt with a lightweight waterproof top for night watches. Last night at around 0130 I was sawing away at the wheel (we are still hand steering) alone on deck when I felt the wind freshen. I looked behind to see a very dark cloud. I just hoped it wouldn't start to rain which it then did. Now at this point of the crossing I am running a tad low on clean shorts. Not wanting to ruin a pair by getting them soaked I had a great plan of just taking them off and lobing them down the hatch. This I did but at the instant they hit the saloon floor, the rain stopped and the squall passed down our starboard side. I was then left stuck at the wheel just in my waterproof top and pants. At 0200 my wife came on watch with Ethan, our 9 year old son as he wanted to see what a night watch is like. No amount of telling how I ended up in just my pants seems to stop the funny look he now gives me.
On another note, we got boared yesterday of doing 5 knots in 15 knots of wind so I set to the broken spinnaker pole fitting with tools and bits and pieces and within half an hour we were sailing under kite again! Mad Fish is back! Not needed right now though as it is blowing 30 knots!
184 miles to go. Line em up James!
