Islay - Land!!!
Ten miles to go but the ocean has decided not to let us go yet. All day
long we had squalls with wind, lots of rain followed by lack of wind. The
‘rambling’ of the rig is driving us crazy. Perhaps our dinner last night:
great steak with greek salad accompanied by a delicious Oyster Bay
sauvignon blanc. The bottle was donated by the Katherine for a special
occasion.
Anyway, ten miles to go. Did we just spent 16 days at sea? It feels like
only six, or eight. Time passed by with an incredible speed. Overall we
enjoyed it very much. The special moments we remember most are dinners and
philosophical discussions in the cockpit underneath the stars. Catching 7
fishes and ate a few of them. Relaxing inside while outside we have massive
waves and 30-35 kn of wind.
Will we do this again? Every time (this is our 3rd time across the big
blue) we say “it’s fun but not again”. Somehow it’s a love and hate
relationship.
So here we are: 9 miles to go. St. Lucia and Martinique are clearly
visible. Around Pigeon island is the finish and the promised rum punch.
Plus… happy hour, lobster, family… Also the next episode of our voyage will
start: island hopping, diving and snorkeling. Enjoying the good life.
Time to go outside and head for the finish: Islay over and out.
