30 March 2004Patronato de Turismo de Lanzarote to support press visits Following a recent visit to Lanzarote to discuss arrangements for this years Rubicon Atlantic Challenge, Director of World Cruising Club, Andrew Bishop, is pleased to report that "the Lanzarote Tourist Board are to host six international journalists for the start of the Rubicon Antigua Challenge this November". The Patronato de Turismo de Lanzarote recognise the importance of the event to the Island and are enthusiastic to promote Lanzarote through this exciting international sailing event. Launched in 2002, this years' event will be the third transatlantic rally from Lanzarote to Antigua starting from Marina Rubicon. Nestling in the south coast of the Island close by Playa Blanca Harbour, this newly developed marina offers an excellent base to prepare for an Atlantic crossing, with its new facilities and expanding selection of services for yachts. General Manager of Marina Rubicon, Rafael Lasso Lorenzo comments on the event "We are delighted to have teamed up with World Cruising Club to sponsor the Rubicon Antigua Challenge, to promote the facilities we offer at our new marina. Promoting Lanzarote is an important aspect of this event, and the support offered by the Patronato de Turismo de Lanzarote is extremely welcome." Director of the Patronato de Turismo de Lanzarote said of their support "Lanzarote recognises the importance of this international sailing event for the future of yachting, and is delighted to help promote the Island through hosting a number of international journalists during the start of this event in November." Yachts participating in the event are expected to start arriving anytime from July, using Marina Rubicon as a base whilst preparing for their Atlantic crossing, which starts on Saturday 20th November. Andrew Bishop comments "In our experience new marinas that choose
to promote themselves through sponsorship of an event are likely to be
successful, very quickly establishing the marina as a well known place
to visit amongst cruising and racing sailors. Marina Rubicon is great
news for Lanzarote as it will attract a great deal of visiting yachts,
not only for this event, but also as others transit through the Canary
Islands in preparation for their own Atlantic crossing. |
