A Fine Farewell Dinner

It was a fantastic evening at Peg Legs Restaurant on Thursday as the rallys congregated at the beach terrace at 1900 for a complimentary rum punch before moving upstairs for their farewell dinner meal. A total of 110 participants from 32 yachts and 12 different nationalities attended the meal, filling the restaurant and indeed keeping the staff in the kitchen, and behind the bar, very busy! It is always a pleasure to witness crew from four or five different countries, two or three different generations, with varying experience at sea, all sitting down next to each other sharing some laughs.

A fine Caribbean style buffet meal was served including a selection of succulent marinated meat dishes accompanied with rice, vegetables and salad, followed by chocolate cake for dessert. Once satisfied crew could retire to the bar and continue socialising whilst browsing a slideshow of photographs captured from the event thus far.

Excitement is growing as the reality of cruising offshore again beckons and for many the opportunity to experience the delights of the secluded Gem that is Bermuda. The skipper briefing on Friday afternoon will answer many of the questions which were being thrown about this evening as Lyall will explain the startline procedure for Saturday’s start as well as an providing an up to date weather forecast expected for the upcoming passages. The GPS trackers will also be installed so that family and friends can begin tracking the fleets progress as they set their sails away from the Caribbean and make a course for either Bermuda, or Ft Lauderdale.
