International Press are welcomed to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

Every year a large number of press come to Las Palmas to cover the start of the ARC. With so many interesting stories and the fact that it is the largest transocean sailing event in the world, there’s always a lot of attention from both local and international media. This year, the Patronato de Turismo (Tourist Board) is hosting journalists from the UK, France, Italy, Norway, and Finland.

ARC crews have been happily talking to journalists around the marina. Each has many fascinating stories to tell about their preparations and expectations for the Atlantic crossing.

A well attended press conference last night at the Hotel Santa Catalina was followed by a cocktail party for media and World Cruising Club’s Corporate Members. Several officials from the Port Authority, Gran Canaria Tourist Board and Las Palmas Council came along to meet the international press, stressing the importance of the ARC to the Island.

The supported international press are today on a guided bus tour of the Island, giving them a chance to venture outside the marina and see some of the beauty and diversity of the Island before Sunday’s start.

Social Programme Continues
It was a busy evening on the social programme with a Sundowner supported by Raymarine and parties hosted by Berthon, Lagoon, Oyster, and Jeanneau boat manufacturers for their owners.

Tonight’s the big one – a farewell party for the 28th ARC, with a cocktail party hosted by the Gran Canaria Tourist Board at the Real Club Nautico for over 1,000 participants in the rally. It’s set to be a night to remember.
