Unexpected Destinations

Safely in port, the ARC Portugal fleet are taking shelter across seven different ports on the Spanish coast from Gijόn to Bayona as high winds produced by a low pressure pass. Despite not being the intended first port of call, many yachts have grouped together and are making the most of their time ashore.

A rendezvous over drinks at the Monte Real Club de Yates last night for the two yachts (Nikita and Salmo Salar) who arrived in Bayona in good time gave chance to meet Tim, Nikki, and Dieter off Remedy of Mylor. Remedy of Mylor have been waiting in Bayona since the rally start in Plymouth and look forward to meeting the remaining ARC Portugal crews on their arrival.

With the current forecast for the high winds to subdue towards the end of this weekend, those north of Bayona will continue to monitor the weather and make their way south when the winds decrease allowing everyone to meet again after their disrupted first passage of ARC Portugal 2014.

For friends and family following the progress of the fleet on the yellowbrick fleetviewer, yacht icons previously displayed boat statuses as ‘Retired’ allowing explanation for their diversion. All yachts now safe in port have their yellowbrick status resumed as they continue to make their way south to Bayona.
