On the water and heading south!

The last few days have seen the ARC Portugal fleet scattered across the Galicia region of Spain many took shelter due to a low pressure system that materialised resulting in high winds and big seas. The system is finally passing north, and with that many of the yachts have seized their first opportunity since making landfall to make progress towards Bayona.

Despite the wind strength decreasing, a relatively large sea state still remains. As crews make their way south, it’s still possible they may take refuge in one of the many harbours overnight allowing the winds and swell to reduce further before continuing to their overdue welcome in Bayona.

Last night the crews off Nikita, Remedy of Mylor and Salmo Salar were joined by Tina and Peter (crew joining Shiraz) at the Monte Real Club de Yates where all were welcomed with a generous gin and tonic, followed by a selection of tapas and wine. Another great evening in Bayona but it’s clear that the remainder of the fleet are missed.

Safe sailing for all at sea on their final passage to Bayona.
