Some boats of the World ARC 2014-15 fleet arrived earlier than
planned on the spice island of Grenada and have started to make Port Louis
Marina, on the doorstep of the capital Saint Georges their home. The participants
are enjoying the luxurious facilities available at this Campers & Nicholson
marina and are also very excited during this last stage of the rally. In
previous stops, internet access has been difficult to obtain. In this marina,
broadband internet is piped into a wifi router, sat on each of the boats! Never
have the fleet been so well connected to share their updates with friend and
families at home.
Boingo Alive is the first boat to arrive from the group which
started from Fortaleza one week ago. The Swiss crew are expected to arrive in
Port Louis Marina at first light tomorrow. The last boat is due in on Monday. The
Grenada Tourism Authority generously offered fantastic welcome packs, complete
with many local Grenadian products, to help welcome the World ARC fleet to the
island. These baskets were presented to those already here with some local rum
punches at an impromptu dockside party this afternoon. It was great to start
having the World ARC fleet back together.
The planned programme kicks off next week with a variety of
activities including a reception at the Grenada Yacht Club sponsored by members
of Marine and Yachting Association of Grenada (MAYAG), an island tour planned
by the Grenada Tourism Authority and a Prize Giving dinner at the Victory Bar
& Restaurant. Until then, those who are here already will continue to
welcome the later arrivals, whilst soaking up the excellent marina facilities
and friendly Grenadian hospitality.
