Yesterday early afternoon the ARC Portugal 2016 fleet arrived at a very sunny Oeiras. Unfortunately they did not get much sailing done on their fifth leg until the last hour before their arrival. The participants had a free night last night to enjoy the evening at Oeiras, coincidentally all gathering in the same small restaurant at the side of the marina for an impromptu rally supper.
Today the participants went on a tour to Poets' Park, Barcarena Gun Powder Factory and museum, and the Palace of the Marquis of Pombal including a wine tasting in the picturesque wine cellar. They arrived at the marina at 1400 and have the afternoon free to either relax or explore Oeiras. Tonight they will have a crew dinner and prize giving at one of the restaurants in the marina, where they will all enjoy delicious Portuguese cuisine.
Tomorrow is a free day to explore Cascais and Lisbon before preparing for their next leg from Oeiras to Sines, leaving at 0900 on Sunday in winds that are forecast to give an enjoyable sail south.
