Forest Environment Project

World Cruising Club has teamed up with the local non-profit charity, Foresta, planting trees where these are most needed, to offset carbon emissions created during the ARC+ crossing.

The ARC Forest Project improves bio-diversity on the island, helps prevent soil erosion and mitigates flooding.

This morning, 22 intrepid ARC+ volunteers set off by coach up the mountain to Finca de Osorio where they were met by Sergio, Manager of Foresta, and received a crash course in planting trees.  After a short but steep walk over the hill our group set to work and in only a short while managed to plant 88 trees! World Cruising Club Managing Director Andrew Bishop went up as well and planted a few more trees to bring this number up to a total of 100.

After a light lunch, ARC+ crews had time to walk through the maintained gardens at the centre and a quick tour of the small farm with some of the largest cows we've ever seen, before climbing back onto the coach for our trip back. The coach trip is a tour in itself with some spectacular views of the mountains and coast of Gran Canaria.

Foresta manages the ARC Forest throughout the year, ensuring our newly planted trees grow strong and proud and become a truly sustainable forest. World Cruising Club would like to offer our sincere thanks to all the volunteers for doing such a great job.

Well Done!
