ARC+ First Arrivals in Mindelo

Following their departure from Las Palmas last Sunday, the  ARC+ fleet have experienced very light winds for the first couple of days but since they get in the trades belt everyone has been progressing well to their first destination of their Atlantic crossing, Mindelo located on the island of S.Vicente which is part of the Cape Verde Islands.

Three days in to their passage, the crew of Fleet II reported in their Log, "We've had the Best day of sailing so far. The WCC weather forecast was bang on and we made good ground, sailing downwind in 20-30 knots and moderate seas. I’m pleased to report that the watch system is settling in nicely and the crew is in good spirits!"

Cat’leya, a Lagoon 52 skippered by Jean Pierre Schiavi, has been leading the fleet since start day and arrived yesterday evening in great style marking the start of the ARC+ stopover in Mindelo. Mariela an Oyster 56 and Sumore a Lagoon 570 followed in to the marina just after midnight and were both happy to arrive. It was a busy night for ARC+ Rally Control welcoming each arrival and fourteen boats are already in.

Remember, you can track the fleets progress as they sail across the Atlantic at the following web link: http://www.worldcruising.com/arc/eventfleetviewer.aspx or on the YB Races app on Android and iOS.

The ARC+ programme will kick off tomorrow, Saturday, with a Welcome Party hosted by Marina Mindelo, and will continue throughout the weekend with tours to the neighbouring island of Santo Antão.
