On the way to Vanuatu

On the way to Vanuatu
Saturday, 07 July, 2012

Vanuatu is an archipelago of 83 islands with a unique blend of intact tribal communities, resorts, beaches and geography ranging from accessible volcanoes to pristine underwater environments, offering unique and memorable experiences. Vanuatu boasts 113 distinct languages and innumerable dialects. This makes it one of the most culturally diverse countries on earth. This is the land of so much to see, so much to do with a reputation for interesting, fun and educational activities to suit any cruising sailors expectations.

The hospitality and invitation to join and participate in Vanuatu's cultural, social and sporting activities is uniquely Vanuatu. From the festivals celebrating tribal customs to the big game fishing challenges and the ocean swims, there are always events on offer for those looking to experience something new. Indeed, whilst in Tanna, the World ARC crews will be treated to a visit to a kustom village and an guided tour of Mount Yasur - a very active volcano.

Many villages receive little or no contact with the outside world other than through yachts. Trading goods for local carvings and fresh produce is a major source of clothing, school supplies, and currency for these villagers.

The World ARC fleet will make landfall in Tanna, before moving north to the relatively developed capital of Vila on Efate island.
