The World ARC fleet is now reaching the half way mark in whole rally route, Australia. The fleet will make landfall in the Queensland town of Mackay. This city, on the eastern coast of Queensland is about 970 kilometres (603 miles) north of Brisbane on the Pioneer River. The town is nicknamed the sugar capital of Australia because its region produces more than a third of Australia's cane sugar - that's a lot of sugar!
The fleet will be at the Mackay Marina Village ideally located at the gateway to the Whitsundays and perfect to cruise inside the Great Barrier Reef to Thursday Island for the World ARC rendezvous on the 22nd of August. The marina is next to sandy Harbour Beach and home to the Pine Islet Lighthouse, one of the only working kerosene lighthouses left in the world.
Piligrim will leave the rally here for cruising Australia and New Zealand, and Umineko will join us to proceed to the Caribbean. We wish fair winds to Dmitry and Natasha and welcome Motoyuki and his crew.
