With 43 children taking part in the ARC, a special programme of events has been arranged just for them, making sure everyone has a memorable ARC. Over the weekend, it was time for one of the highlights of the Children’s Programme – the ARC Beach Party! It was a chance to let the children have fun in a safe environment whilst their parents were busy getting prepared for the start. Children from 3 to 11 years gathered in front of the ARC Office on Saturday afternoon and in bright sunshine they trotted to the beach near the marina and spent two hours running around and playing fun games in the sand. It was hard to know who enjoyed it most – the children or ARC staff! After the first few games, everyone got to know each other and language wasn’t a barrier for the little Scandinavian, Australian, American and French children. The most popular game was sharks and fishes and even the older kids screamed with joy while trying to catch the others. The World Cruising Club team was reinforced by two staff from the Federación Insular de Vela de Gran Canaria who specialise in teaching children to sail. Aday and Maria are running the ARC Children’s Club all this week and activities include dinghy sailing and activities outside the marina. Also on the programme is a visit to the Las Palmas Science Museum, a trip to the cinema, involvement with the ARC safety demonstrations and other water related activities.
