19 Multihulls Set for ARC Crossing
Cats Crossing: 19 Multihulls Set for ARC Adventure |
|
19 multihulls are moored in the Vela Latina basin in the Muelle Deportivo and are preparing for their Atlantic crossing with the ARC. Amongst them are 11 Lagoon catamarans, ranging from 40 to 56 feet. This type of catamaran seems to have become the favourite multihull for offshore cruising as it combines safety and comfort at an affordable price. One of the skippers is Charles Devanneaux, the Lagoon representative for California. He’s sailing Naos 400 to the Caribbean and later to the United States to be exhibited at boat shows in America. The smallest cat is Buba Cat (JER) and the largest multihull is Sagittarius, a Privilège 65. La Medianoche is the only cat with a lady skipper and for Mareike Guhr from Hamburg, it is her second ARC, having participated in 2010 in a different boat. She was hoping to sail around the world after that Atlantic crossing, but ended up in Cuba with technical problems. This year she intends to fulfil her dream and will sail through the Panama Canal into The Pacific, raising money for charities along the way. There are also a number of family boats amongst the multihulls: Kairos, Kazaio, Chillicat and Intrepid Bear and nine children altogether are crossing the Atlantic on multihulls. Also sailing in this division are some charter boats, for example Arctic Queen which is offering luxury charter on a huge Lagoon 560. |
