Distant Shores II is a Southerly 49 variable-draft sailboat built by Northshore Yachts in the UK. When the keel of Distant Shores II is down the draft is 3.15 m and when up, the boat draws 0.88 m. There is a grounding plate built into the hull so the boat can dry out at low tide making it a versatile deep-draft ocean-going yacht and shallow-draft cruising boat that can take the ground. Distant Shores II is owned by Paul and Sheryl Shard, presenters of the Distant Shores sailing TV series that is broadcast in 24 languages worldwide on Travel Channel, WealthTV and Travel & Escape Channel. The Shards will be documenting the ARC 2012 event as episode #110 in the TV series which is now in it's 9th season and features the world's best sailing destinations and events.
