Morning Haze - Morning Haze...swim in the Bermuda Triangle?

Hello everyone,As you already know, we lost our boat refrigeration on the first day, Then just after 24 hours out of the BVI we suffered an autopilot failure forcing us to make a difficult choice: to turn back or to take this misfortune as a new challenge to overcome. We choose the latter and so far we steered Morning Haze some 500 miles after another misfortune hit us...We thought we had seen it all but no....around noon today the wind died!!!What?!....We still have 165 miles to go and the wind dies? What do we do? We will enjoy it!!!We spent the last hour playing in the water behind the boat. Jumping of the davits and off the stern into deep but amazingly crystal clear water. Morning Haze - Morning Haze - resilience is the key...

When we prepared for ARC-USA (our last leg on our tour of the Atlantic and our 4th rally with the WCC), we set out goals for our family and ourselves individually. The general theme was to "live the moment" right from the preparation stage and stay with it until we land in Bermuda. We obviously also wanted to do well in our respective class even though we are a small family boat. As fellow cruisers know, we are not racing but it is hard to let someone go by without trimming your sails!Sometimes when sailing offshore things don't necessarily go as you have planned. And for us this one leg seems to be one of those "unplanned journey". Just after the start (saturday) our refrigeration water cooling pump quit. Morning Haze - Sailor Ted's last blog...

Hello everyone,This will be my last post as Morning Haze is now docked in Rodney Bay Marina. I have to say that I had a great crossing with the Hayes family. The girls, Rebecca and Demi, took very good care of me and they made me participate in all their daily activities such as taking the water samples for the microplastic research, baking bread or cinnamon rolls and even swimming in no less than 24,000 feet of water!!!We had great fun. And as a bonus, I now also speak french!I also want to thank the boats that provided us with weather over the VHF (since we could not download the grib files while at sea...remember our software crash!). Morning Haze - Sailor Ted's adventures aboard Morning Haze (day 19)

Bonjour,Yesterday (day 19) was just a picture perfect "trade wind day"! It was sunny, blue sky and winds in the 20-25 kts range. I have to say that we were expecting more of these days on this passage. On our end the wind has been light and variable and Morning Haze's inability to sail directly downwind (because of the B&R rig) did make this run harder... on the nerves! ;-)But what do they say?..."You can't change the wind but you can adjust your sails"...I would add to this... "and modify your course"!!! HiHiHi. In the afternoon, the girls took the last water sample for the micro-plastic project and they both studied. Yes yes, they really studied! Morning Haze - Sailor Ted's adventure continue with the "HAZE" family.

Bonjour à tous,La 17e journée à bord de Morning...OUPS...I guess I am almost bilingual now!...Let's go back to english...Day 17 started great with the wind blowing around 20 kts but unfortunately faided away in the afternoon to a mere 15 kts...not quite enough for us...we slowed down to 5 kts of SOG. But the bright side of this is that Demi showed me how to make bread since we are running out of fresh produce. We mixed all the ingredients together (please read we made a total mess in the galley!) and shape the dough to make it into a delicious loaf of bread. I can tell you that there is nothing like the smell of hot bread in the galley...miam miam! In the evening, we watched an episode of "Modern Family" on the IPad and went to bed early (me and Rebecca) as we were both tired...Demi took. read more...
