El Gato - gobble gobble

Happy Thanksgiving to all our American friends and family! We started our day with slow speeds and have gradually ramped it up but not before sending Eric up the mast to retrieve the take down line for the spinnaker snuffer.Without it we'd be in trouble!Last night it was squally squally night and a few boats passed us so we are working hard to reel them back in.Still no auto pilot but we are used to it now.Three drivers and one cook who keeps us fed and happy. Two more days we hope!!!Annie and the cat peopleimage1. read more...

El Gato - half way party!

Today we sailed past the 1/2 way point and donned costumes, decorated half the boat, and toasted with a half a bottle of Catalan wine. It's been a really fun ride and three of us are getting lots of driving time since the auto pilot quit two days ago. Top speed so far on this leg is 16.6 VMG. We've had three over 200 mile days so we hope to finish in 10 to 11 days. The competition is tight and we can't slow downWe are all instrument rated pilots now that we steer to a compass at night.Old school.Reading about Columbus.Loving the journey. The Cat People. read more...

El Gato - Leg 2, Day 2

Personal best for El Gato as we sailed over 200NM/day for the first time as new owners!Caught a small Dorado and will have it as an appetizer tonight with fresh banana bread made with the famous Canary Island bananas. MmmmmYesterday the start was thrilling as we screamed out the harbor and down the channel with the fleet on our heels. Lir eventually passed us to leeward. The acceleration zone was blasting us all out to sea!Nix and Bepa passed us before dark and we had a few boats on our stern last night including our buddies on PGRoshni. Now we can't see anyone on AIS. It's a beautiful sunset about to happen and then we will bust out our night moves.Lol Thank you ARC+ organizers for a great time in Cape Verde. Take a break and rest up for the Caribbean!. read more...
